A big thing for me was just, yeah whats cheapest and in bulk? My local place had huge packs of bone-in chicken thighs. Two packs would get us through a lot of weeknight dinners, my sister gets skeeved out by the bones in her food though. So I'd wind up taking an hour after grocery shopping to just debone everything- and then hey we got the making of a stock now. And like.. freezer stocked with chicken and fresh homemade stock was such a good foundation for so many dishes. And I think a lot of things are like that?

Oh yeah. I used to buy whole chicken back when they were like 4 or 5 bucks, and whatever veg I could buy cheap in bulk. Between that and rice, beans, and eggs, I'd be set for a week.

Even further back, in Middle/High School, I hated the food they served. So I'd skip lunch to hang out in the library. Once I'd get home, I'd frankenstein whatever I could outta leftovers and pantry stockers.

Ah... my high school didnt provide food. like there was a cafeteria but you had to buy food everyday- and i didnt have a job for parts of high school so, yeah. not an option. like a good majority of people i knew just didn't eat lunch.
