Spinning out of my evil gm thought post but one of my favorite house rules of Pathfinder was changing the spell Blindness/Deafness to Lose Sense, and opening it up to include Numbness.

What did that do? It meant that I kept track of player HP instead of them. They could see if they were damaged, but they couldn't know how close to death they were. This itself came from when I ran Carrion Crown and did this for the first adventure as a way to heighten the suspense and it worked. It was a lot of extra effort but it worked. I was willing to tell them if they were bloodied but other than that they just had to gauge how bad it was based on my descriptions, which pushed me on describing harm accurately.

God that first adventure was a blast because I put entirely too much work into it? Big baby GM feeling nervous. But like, one of the things I did was roll up random weather for two months of in game weather. This lead to a horrific blizzard for a few days during the adventure and these 1st level heroes having to truly worry about their clothing and spending what money they could scrounge to get endure elements cast on them. And that adventure was all about fighting undead who DO NOT care about the cold. Anyway, fun things I added to my GM lexicon because I was trying too hard to impress.
