I finally closed credits on BOTW, and I'm glad I did. I'm glad the game finally clicked for me, but perhaps that's simply a function of my not being completely occupied for long enough to be able to just spend time with it. The game is absolutely the kind of thing you want to get into if you feel the need to break a gacha habit. Just turn it on, play, and forget to do your dailies long enough that you end up dropping everything else.
I didn't quite go that far, but I could've, had I not decided that I'd seen all the narratively interesting bits (the memory sidequests, the Champion's Ballad, etc.). There was fully 30-40% of Hyrule left to just luxuriate in if I wanted to, and it's wild to me that the team was so confident in its ability to inspire curiosity that it didn't contrive a narrative reason to visit the other two corners of the map (Hebra and Faron). As in, if you are following a walkthrough you never even need to visit their respective towers.
Anyway, good to be able to put it away. I just hope I can make time for Tears of the Kingdom before another 6 years pass.
