I don’t know who needs to hear this:

You can add a bookmark with a keyword and replace part of the URL with %s to add it as a makeshift search engine.

Take for instance the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionaries. Wonderful tool, but a bit useless if I have to type that long URL in all the time.

But if we search for “test” and look at the URL:
https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/test_1?q=test

and replace the test with a %s
https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/%s

and bookmark that, we have a “search engine”.

Give it a keyword (I choose “o”) and you can search from your URL bar by just prepending your search with the keyword like:
o higgledy-piggledy
