Before Barkley 2 completely imploded, there are tales of players failing to complete and/or dying during the character creation process of the E3 demo.
I can only imagine this is the primary influence on Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers, the newly released follow up to SRB2 Kart, because that (compulsory) tutorial was one of the most arduous and least pleasant things I've ever forced myself to complete. I still don't understand the game and now I don't want to play it anymore
