Game Ranking Project - @God-Bless-The-Rank

About a week ago I paid the equivalent of 10 American Dollars in my local currency to run the above ad in cohost.org's "artist alley". A little over 7 hours later, the ad was running.

The ad was for my silly game-ranking project God Bless The Rank, and just linked to the cohost profile page. I ran the ad under the #games and #doing a bit categories.

Over the 7 day period the God Bless The Rank cohost account received:

  • 5 new follows
    • 1 of whom was definitely a friend of mine.
    • 1 of whom probably also is that same friend.
    • 3 of whom are not people I personally know. (One being an artist and game developer I respect a lot)
  • 1 'liked' post (on the full list of games)

Ending up at roughly $US1.67 spent per notification.

I deliberately didn't post to the God Bless The Rank profile or update the list during this period to avoid affecting the results. However, during this period there was a post on this account that "did severals", which could possibly have confounded the results.

To be clear, this is a perfectly acceptable result for me. I'm not under any illusions that I'm promoting some important work of art or cultural critique. And it doubled the existing follower1 count anyway.

I got exactly what I expected from my $10.

I suspect someone with more financial or emotional skin in the game may have a different opinion though.

  1. two of which are my own other accounts.
