Speaking of those replies. They seem to be a perfect example of something from the Insert Credit Podcast earlier this year, when Tim Rogers referred to the "inherent problem with the 26 year old-ness of video game critics."

I’ve ceded a lot of semantic ground to the unwashed hordes of binding of vampire gungeon players, but if I ever see someone misuse “traditional roguelike” I do kill them in real life

I refuse to acknowledge the "Traditional Roguelike" compromise, because it was very obvious it would end up in the same place as Roguelike. But also ended up ignoring a lot of true innovation in the genre.

It took about year for the "The 'traditional roguelikes' are the originals like Spelunky and Binding of Isaac!" line to take hold amongst the 'gamers'.
