I major in Computer Science (its a nightmare. Well at least for my college).
I prefer if only 18+ are here, thanks! Just more comfy with it.

It's really funny to see basically all of tech youtube go through this ritual of reviewing the Rabbit R1 or the Humane pin and going "this thing is a piece of garbage that's poorly built, makes no sense, and doesn't work" but then making sure to also be appropriately credulous about AI and how this class of device will surely be good and useful any day now, just wait for the software updates

This just reminds me about the cybertruck and how they consider it a "futuristic car" when in reality, it's a bunch of shitty pieces of metal cobbled together with a gas pedal that can fall off, no visible handles (I didn't see any when I saw it. Where the fuck are they?), and edges that can literally cut you. Plus this thing has broken down after a mile before.

I guess the future is just cutting costs and making cheaper, shittier products that sacrifice safety in the name of profit. Like AI right now. AI is just being used to replace workers and cut costs. It's disgusting.

in reply to @bruno's post:

only learned today that the rabbit was made by TE- and honestly, I'm kinda surprised at how the guys behind a device like the OP-1 (expensive, but with long battery life, care and attention to detail in the product design and tactile feedback) decided to pivot to making a $200 post-it that needs charged every four hours and tells you lies.

everyone is too credulous about the potential of the technology. the whole trick is making the gap between what it's doing and what you want it to do SEEM really small... because how you operate, with your normal human brain, it doesn't seem like a large leap from being wrong to being right... but in reality that gap is actually a fathomless chasm that cannot be filled by any known science. it's a trick, an illusion. we're so close in form, if we just solve 3 or 4 of philosphy's deepest conundrums of the last 3000 years we'll have functionality in the bag 🚀
