vaudevilleghost

universally beloved internet figure

seattle, bikes, speculative fiction, media reviews, being extremely talented

The last day has dawned, and I need to update my "how to find me" post. I am not very active on social media, but I can be found at

I may not post much but I do receive notifications if anyone interacts with me on either, and I would love to hear from you. I will try to post notifications there when something goes live at my new blog (but I'm still looking for a good crossposting solution to make this process less burdensome to my brain). Speaking of which, my new blog is

and you can follow the RSS feed from there. This will be my primary home on the internet in the future; the microblogging websites have an energy that I just can't enjoy anymore. There is a contact page on my new website which will have updated contact information after Cohost goes down.

Finally, I am rcrantz or vaudevilleghost most internet places; if you see one of those usernames there's a pretty good chance that's me, if you feel like saying hey.

The last A Softer World comic.

It's something of an oddity, being both able and willing to say a fond farewell to a community as it dies. And it's difficult to find something appropriate to say, something beautiful and poignant that will be a fitting monument to what this place once was, for those who are still here to see it. But I think I found something--a secret I have learned, that I would like to share with you.

The thing about apocalypses is, the world doesn't really end. The Picts didn't die out; they changed. The Romans didn't cease existing when Rome fell; hell, the city of Rome is still standing. It's the same city. Civilizations collapse, towns disperse, communities die out, but the people, those core elements that make up those civilizations, they live on. They go elsewhere. And by virtue of being elsewhere they change the nature of that place.

The secret, then, is this: you are the reason this place is great. You can bring with you, wherever you go next, the same ideals that made me love this website, that sheer joy of sharing whatever you found interesting. Of trying to make an internet space that was driven not by algorithms or numbers, but by people, coming together. We can do that. The algorithmic, corporate-driven internet is not an inevitable force.

So: go out there, friends of eggbug, and be amazing. You have already proven you can do it; I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Fair winds and following seas.

All right, friends. The end is near, and I'm done with all of the modern-timeline Ace Attorney games, which means it's time to do what will undoubtedly be a poorly organized writeup of miscellaneous thoughts on the series, and also on this series! Honestly I'm not sure why I didn't make dedicated posts to write about the games as they happened, but hey, one lives and learns. As is appropriate for an Ace Attorney finale, this will be longer than usual, but I'll break it up with subject headings. There will be some general spoilers after the cut.
