The most "spend 10 hours to automate something that could be done manually in 10 seconds" programmer brain thought I've had in a while is to write a program to use webcam motion detection, which I know nothing about, to let me do a hand gesture to scroll down so I don't have to keep my hand on my mouse or keyboard while reading long things.
