I Am A Delight

Okay, so... weird plot point in a lot of stories I've seen, hell it's part of Super Mario Odyssey...

The thing about a girl being forced into a wedding, and they need to stop it before it's too late.
Like... is it expected that after she's been forcefully married, she will suddenly become meek and obedient? There's no rescue after that? It's just... weird to me. Weird. Weird weird weird. Like, what validity does that wedding have that makes it too late if some schmuck says "now it's done"?
I get it's like "oh no, dramatic plot point!"
But... no, it really bugs me. Like fuck off with these expectations of yours that once a woman is "married" against her will, she'll no longer be able to do anything.
Worse comes to worst, just kill the "husband", or at least force him to rip apart the contract under threat of extreme violence.

Anyway, thank you for coming to my "Rita has issues with common story tropes" corner.

Okay here's what's in the Book Of Common Prayer, so a Church Of England priest has to say it: "I require and charge you both, as ye will answer at the dreadful day of judgement, when the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if either of you know any impediment, why ye may not be lawfully joined together in Matrimony, ye do now confess it. For be ye well assured, that so many as are coupled together otherwise than God's Word doth allow are not joined together by God; neither is their Matrimony lawful."
