I miss the Mechcommander games. Mechcommander 1 was my introduction into the battletech universe, and I've played through it several times. Then I played Mechwarrior 3, which I also enjoyed a bunch, and then Mechcommander 2 which I've been through several times as well.
I wasn't as taken by Mechwarrior 4, but it was alright.
But then we've never seen another Mechcommander since.

I was hoping Battletech The Videogame would scratch that same itch, but turn-based combat, and procedural missions just didn't really do it for me.

The linear nature, and pre-made missions of MC made it much more approachable, and replayable to me. And I liked the real-time nature of it.
I don't really care that much for doing a bunch of rep-building to unlock more story missions, so the newest Mechwarrior game didn't really land for me either.
I don't think I actually finished that one, but I am... reasonably certain I finished Battletech at least. Fairly certain.

As do I! My early Battletech journey was similar to yours, but switch MW3 and MC in the order. MW4 never quite matched the deadpan professional briefings from the Mobile Field Base Intelligence Guy in MW3 (still probably my favourite BT campaign I've played, though that was also my very first PC game at all, so), though I have fond nostalgia for the 4 trio all the same.

I did have to get an external disk drive not so long ago because I had a hankering to play some old games in my collection and forgot that my current tower has no optical drive at all...
