There is exactly one place in the Metroid Dread speedrun where you use the ice missiles to freeze an enemy to use as a platform, which I feel like in general hasn't been that much of a thing in Metroid games since Super Metroid.
Like, you can do it in Metroid Fusion, but I can't recall if it's ever helpful, or necessary...

In Fusion, ice missiles are required to solve a speed booster puzzle immediately after getting them, and to get to the main boiler and then the animals. After that you get the power bombs, and then the space jump, at which point they become nearly unnecessary for any platforming.
There are a few puzzles for optional items that use the ice missiles as a solution, but most of them are in sector 5 anyhow IIRC.
As for Dread, having only 1 instance of freezing an enemy for a platform is still more than any of the Prime games lol.
