Homeworld 3 is a lot of fun so far, though I do think it maybe moves a little bit too rapidly. I wish it gave me a little more time to breathe, but... I guess the latest mission has actually given me more slack to take things at my own pace.
The early missions felt like they were just jumping from event to event, and once one is triggered, there's no time to assess the situation before taking action.
Actually... I guess that's probably why there's a pause button. I forgot about that. I should be using that.
But yeah! So far I'm enjoying it a bunch.
It does kinda feel like the assault frigates are dominating everything the enemy can throw at me at the moment. The only downside is they're slow. But they can handle strikecraft, corvettes, and turrets with ease. They don't really need escorts. Even other frigates aren't a huge threat.
It feels a little odd to unlock them so early, especially since the intel guy keeps talking about needing to be careful about my strategy. It turns out I can just fly the assault frigates over there to solve the problem without getting fancy.
It's probably more relevant on higher difficulties.
I just unlocked ion frigates as well, so the tech tree is rapidly escalating. And I haven't even had time to play with the corvettes I unlocked earlier.
I suppose that makes me worry a little bit about pacing... in terms of tech tree, I mean. Other RTS games might like... give new units their own spotlight mission to show what they can do, but that does not seem to be the case here.
Anyway, I should stop rambling. I might offer more thoughts later.
