If I had a euro for every time I saw a story with an interesting premise, that the author ended up not doing anything interesting with, I probably could have paid off a good chunk of my mortgage.

the henry gallant stories. a fairly standard mil sci fi story about a character with no genetic engineering in a society where it's common trying to rise in the ranks. could have been a genuinely good story about prejudice and adversity in a society of eugencists, except instead the author just made him genetically superior to the people with genetic engineering somehow. also i'm not sure the author has ever talked to a human.
