No, it's not on the App Store or Play Store. This is by design.

You know the thing where NSFW creators, models, artists, etc. ask for protections so that they can make a living and not be impacted by bullshit regulations? This is why. Cohost is a NSFW-friendly site meaning that if it had an App, it would have to abide by (literally only) Apple's rules. Apple hates porn and it does not want it on its app store. It's why Twitter has insane rules around hiding it and why Discord makes you toggle NSFW servers on Desktop manually. Remember when Tumblr banned porn and everyone left? It was almost entirely because of this. To avoid this happening here, there is no native app.

Also the team is four people and it would take more than that to maintain an iOS, Android, and web experience that is consistent across the board.

However, you can very easily add Cohost to your Home Screen like an app. Here's how!

iOS

Open cohost.org in Safari and click the Share button at the bottom. (It's the middle one.) In that list, click Add to Home Screen. That's it!

Now just log in, and you're set.

Android

For Chrome users, open cohost.org and tap the three dots/hamburger menu. (I don't know what it looks like, I'm not on Android sorry.) From there, select Add to Home Screen.

For Firefox users, open cohost.org, tap the hamburger menu and select "Install".

Now just log in, and you're set.

Finished!

Now you have Eggbug on the go! The Cohost mobile site was built to functionally work like an app and the features are identical to the website. Enjoy!

It's better than a shortcut!

Using Cohost this way is perfect!!!

At least on iOS, adding a website to the homescreen allows you to open up a dedicated fullscreen multitasking-capable app rather than just loading it up as a tab in Safari. It's functionally similar to using a chromium application on desktop in that it's just a webapp with its own app context, which for something like this, is more than enough for accessing a web community.

I usually was fine using the browser to access this place1, but having this available is so much nicer since I can just swipe over to it at any time, from any app or even while browsing, without needing to find a tab or get distracted by the Safari UI.

It's so snappy and helpful, and I've honestly been accessing Cohost on mobile exclusively this way since I first tried it.

I highly recommend it.

Considering the freedom this allows for NSFW content (as well as the freedom from needing to maintain an app & app license & a ton of extra unnecessary arbitrary bullshit app devs need to deal with on top of splitting attention between that & the web frontend), I really hope more people become aware of this functionality!

  1. I was aware of this feature before but it's honestly one of those things I kept forgetting about with disuse since every online space I used ended up making a dedicated appstore app to keep up a facade of modern relevancy.

i use a google pixel + firefox, and i just click Install and put it on my screen. it also works differently from just being a browser shortcut; i did the same with itaku expecting it to go fullscreen in the same way, and it just didn't loool
