Here's a sincere question [non-accusatory]: would you look twice if someone had said "stir fried tapioca"? Might just be a matter of advertising, since I'd bet more people recognize "boba" than "tapioca".
nah, you can do a lot of things with tapioca starch.
but also it turned out it was just regular brown sugar boba
