like we've all seen the writing on the wall starting from day 1 of the takeover but just... idk. I guess we've passed the point of it sinking in even for the more general userbase that that place isn't going to remain at all usable for them for much longer, if it hasn't ceased to be already (sure did for me when they cut 3rd party app support). people are mass posting their links to other places as with previous scares but this time it's... having a site just break on you like that by executive decision makes it feel like it's for real this time around.
do I mind Twitter itself going down? lol fuck no, that place is a hellsite. at the same time... on a personal level, it's the end of an era. I've been on that site for 11 goddamn years, signed up when I was 19 after hearing all the fuss about it. there's so much of me that I explored in my time there and it honestly wouldn't have been possible without the people I met along the way, for better or worse.
on a less personal level, it's a bunch of connections with people being severed, however tenuous. people use it to draw in customers, get attention to their fundraisers, news in the era of blatantly corporate owned news networks; arguably a reason why spreading misinformation online for political gain got so trendy to begin with.
i don't really have any point to drive home with this, it's just.
man.
