This seriously is an observatory that needs to be saved. It still has so much life left, it's critical for supplementing observations of transient events, which is a big focus in astronomy right now: being able to record events that only last a few minutes to a few hours across as many wavelengths as possible. In the grand scheme of things, it costs peanuts to fund. Losing this observatory is going to be a huge blow to high-energy astronomy

Please, if you're an American, write to your reps. This thing is a treasure to the whole world.

here at sci-fi restaurant we have:

  • dry ice in a blue vodka drink
  • orange-red drink that's on fire/has a sparkler on it
  • non-alcoholic drink that's just orange juice with some food dye
  • burger with design burned into the bun (normal burger otherwise)
  • bowl of some kind of noodle soup but with a plastic toy floating in it
  • BLT sandwich but the food pick has a decoration on it
  • normal fish dish but a lady in an alien costume brings it out
  • chicken fingers and fries

most countries in the world allow prisoners to vote unless their voting rights have specifically been taken away as part of their sentence (usually because the crime in question specifically involved fucking with elections, and even then it's pretty exceptional) - the US is one of the exceptions, alongside Australia, New Zealand and India

shockingly, most of the world has not legalized crime
