it’s wednesday again! we remain slammed with a combination of support queues, the 3pm daily “site slow for no reason again,” and going through applications for the support ops role!

speaking of which, if you missed that announcement yesterday, we’re hiring! come work with us!

queue note: there are currently over 25,000 of you on the waiting list! we’re doing our best to activate 1,000 users per business hour as long as the moderation load remains doable. please do not send in bug reports about your place in the queue if your problem is simply “why am i still unactivated,” as this quite literally makes the wait longer. thank you so much for your patience, and keep in mind that while you’re unactivated, you can still follow users, edit your profile, and share posts.

on to the patch notes:

  • UNDISCOVERABLE FEATURE: you can now Quick Share posts by holding shift while clicking the share button!
    • RELATED: we enabled a new animation to support this. we are as of yet unsure how this will impact the CSS meta.
  • minor profiling and logging changes so we can ban Bad Bots more easily
    • i’d say “you know them when you see them” but for real you actually do know them when you see them.
    • the user allegedly running Firefox 62 spamming every single possible variation of “big boobs” as a page name is Probably not a real person and has been prevented from accessing cohost. sorry man but we gotta save those for the good faith boobposters
  • updated the tags page to hide shares
    • we talked about this some on monday, but this is to prevent users from adding tags onto a share and giving it a very different audience than what OP intended
    • we’re going to make some tweaks here, starting with “shares made by OP will still show up”
  • tried and failed to land a major change to how our code is laid out
    • we first attempted this on friday. while the deploy was a success, there were bugs introduced that we hadn’t already noticed. we rolled back until we know everything’s fixed for sure
  • made changes to how we ban users
    • prompted by us receiving reports for a user we had already banned. we appreciate your vigilance, but now you can see if we’ve already suspended a user

update on the ToS and community guidelines changes: the ToS changes are in progress, the ball is currently in our lawyer’s court here. we’re pretty close to a final draft of the community guidelines, at which point we’ll have some other people review and make sure we’re not missing anything obvious.

here’s what’s coming up:

  • the ability to hide comments on your posts!
    • if you see something that is a violation of the community guidelines, report it! if it’s someone being obnoxious but not in a rule-breaking way, hide it!
    • implementation of this is done and we’re just finishing up tests.
  • bookmarked tag feed! seriously! i promise!

thanks for using cohost!

in reply to @staff's post:

1k/hour is quite fast pace if you're doing any level of moderation. Dunno what kinds of white/black lists they're using, that may help a bit.

The "your place in queue" is probably just a vague guess rather than hard truth as mine was stuck at a fixed value for days on end and then jumped by several thousand.

it is actually literally your numerical place in line! you'll note that we mentioned "per business hour;" i'm willing to guess that your place in line stayed at one value over a weekend, when we don't activate any users (because we aren't working)

Data points:

  • Oct31: 5864
  • Nov3: 5862
  • Nov4: 1865
  • Nov8: 1862
  • And later on Nov8: 0

Checked several times a day since registering. If this is a bug, it's so low-priority that you can pretty much ignore it.

fucking love it with the reshare-- would like a faster way to do tags on rechosts cause one of my use cases is reshare-with-tags-so-i-can-theoretically-but-never-actually-find-them-again but also like, i wonder if thats not userscriptable somehow.... either way i love this, will drastically increase the number of cats yall see from me

you guys are doing so much and just know that it's greatly appreciated. I've seen people talking about how they have to wait, and have been explaining the situation to them, and they think it's quite alright. No one coulda predicted that everyone would want to log in all at once haha
