So I'm doing perhaps the most niche art project I've ever done, designing movie tie-in toylines for all the Dark Universe movies from Are You Afraid of the Dark Universe podcast, starting with The 2017 Mummy(which surprisingly doesn't have a toyline??). If a burgeoning expanded movieverse needs anything, it's lines of ridiculous toyetic action figures based off scenes that were definitely not in the movie! This is also partially in tribute to Andrew Sorohan, who always did the most inventive and weird transformer designs that I always enjoyed seeing.
First up: DELUXE JETPACK RESCUE NICK MORTON with a jetpack that has pop out wings and a retractable claw!
I'm gonna keep doing these for each movie(until I run out of time or energy)! Why am I so good at making the weirdest, most niche things?
QUICK CHANGE JEKYLL/HYDE!
Wasn’t really monstrous in the movie but OBVIOISLY he has big clip-on hands and feet, head flipping action, and a gun that can be held in either form. I love drawing both Jekyll’s and Hyde’s faces
SCIENCE PACK JENNY HALSEY with her pack of tools and science equipment, a briefcase that converts into a lab table, a battery with light-up action, and all of it can be combined to form a big Science Blaster!
SPECTER OPS VAIL!
With light-up action and a firing Ghost Gun! From all those scenes that Vail was still in his ghostly form between life and death but was also going on missions to fight living and dead bad guys alike(or maybe this was a comic mini series?)
PLAGUE ATTACK AHMANET! She has limited articulation because of the action features and Sexy Woman Body but she comes with 2 locust plague missiles that shoot out of her hands, 2 mutated scarab beetles that can glomp onto other figures and has Long Mouth Mummy action. There were big mutated scarabs in the movie, right?
Back on my DU bullshit, we've got MUMMY HANDS MORTON! Based off the like, 2 mins we see him at the end of the movie and what the designers assumed his powers would do. Includes extending hand wraps, changing eye action, and wraps that can go over other figures!
DESERT SURF VAIL! I'm super into accessories that transform/combine into other things. He's got a lil gun and hat, and a fan pack and skis that turns into a gun and shield!Was originally gonna make this a Nick Morton one but I feel like Vail deserves a lil desert fun.
SET ALTER ARMOR AHMANET!
This is maybe the dumbest concept I've had but I love clip-on armor. Based off a scene where Ahmanet sacrifices a heart to a set Alter so he gives her more power before someone had to explain to the writer That's Not How Any Of This Works.
NICK MORTON MUMMY-CYCLE! Originally called the "Set Cycle" in the prototype phase but they changed it for marketing reasons. Based off a cut scene where Nick Morton has a motorcycle chase with Ahmanet and mummies up a motorcycle like that one scene from the 90s Spawn movie. It has flashing lights, a spring-loaded launcher that launches a Silver Steak missile, 2 Exhaust Guns that can detach from the cycle, and a spring-loaded canopic jar that can release Scarab Caltrops.
Here it is! My magnum opus(for this movie)! THE DARK MICRO-VERSE: MUMMY'S TOMB PLAYSET! Includes tiny Nick Morton, Sgt. Vail, Jenny Halsey, Ahmanet, and 2 mummy figures! Folds up to form the Sarcophagus and is meant to portray the scenes of delving into the tomb and finding Ahmanet, with added traps and enemies. Also in this series would be an Ambulance that folds out to show the church fight scene and a big Prodigium symbol that folds out to show the Jekyll/Hyde fight.
