I don't talk nearly enough about Andreagor content here.
Allow me to fix that.
The Andreagor Chronicles started life as a long story series about queer disaster space pirates I wanted to tell via comic. Turns out I was not ready for a project that big (But I might be some time in the future, who knows). But, I am not letting go of the cast of characters in the slightest, because they are all parts of me.
The core Characters in TAC are all years in development at this point, and I talked a little bit about this in my stream yesterday, but as they formed, I started to learn a lot about myself.
Mahru for instance, as the first Character to form, was probably one of my earlier attempts at confronting my gender identity. Mahru is, effectively, non binary. It was going to be a joke originally in the story through line that their gender was never once even mentioned. They are just Mahru, and that's all that mattered. Mahru went on to develop from soft androgynous uwu to explicitly gender-fucky and still non binary, too. They now have a few scars, shorter hair, still wear the tunic dress overtop of their jumpsuit and boots. They are much closer to an action enby than the passive character they were originally. They're quiet and thoughtful, but that doesn't stop them from knowing how to break important shit to sabotage those that get in their way. The whole reason they entered the story is that they were caught selling machine parts from the factory they were interred at to black market dealers.
Hofan was the next character to form, He originally started as equally passive, though physically much larger and bearing the many scars of a rough life. He started as an old guy who just wanted to stay out of trouble. This was, in my opinion, a bad character construction. He's an extremely experienced engineer, and was once very politically active. He is timid and keeps himself out of trouble, sure. But that's not the end of his arc. He gets confident again in accepting it's okay to want things, and getting in to trouble doesn't have to be a death sentence. He is also explicitly gay, absolutely a bottom, but has trouble gelling that with his sheer god damn size and imposing nature. Hofan is a big soft boy, but he's a big soft boy who will smash someone's skull through a drive plate if they try to start shit.
And then there's Krik.
Krik is a complex character. She's smart about the world, she's resourceful, she's cocky, she's funny, she's confident, but she's also afraid of attachment. At multiple points in the story she demonstrates that she's scared of getting to like her crewmates too much, because then, in her mind, if they get in to trouble, she's bound to do something stupid to save them. It's important to note that before the story, she'd never even run with a crew. She'd been a lone wolf for years hopping from place to place just making do, intentionally avoiding building relationships out of fear they'd drag her down - though she'd never admit that to herself. She's not a hero, never wanted to be, and doesn't know why she feels guilty for leaving people behind. She's probably the character that felt the most fleshed out all in all.
Anyway, please enjoy my queer space disasters.
