Like. after Furality, I think I like it better as this temporary thing. It will go away. It might come back, in different ways, and that's ok.
Granted like, they shouldn't DELETE it. It's a bunch of hard work. And there should be record of it - historical context that a bunch of furries made a cool ass desert place and 21,000 people went to it.
But there's something to be said for letting things be temporary. It's not something I can go do whenever. I plan my time around going to the fireworks show at furality just like I would planning around a concert at a local venue. That concert happens, and then it's done. It exists as photos and memories and a poster but that moment won't ever happen again.
And that's ok!!! Just because something CAN be saved doesn't mean it has to be. Making something public and accessible whenever Changes it, in a way. It's less of an event and more just. Something that's there. There's something magical about seeing a local park be turned into a whole little local festival, and it wouldn't be the same if it was always in festival mode.
And you can have things be saved still! They'll probably put up the world eventually. But not everything can come back - the meetups, a droid singing at midnight can't come back. Maybe some of the digital stuff doesn't have to come back either. Maybe the fireworks show never will. We still have photos and memories of it.
I can't tell you where the line should be, I don't even know myself. This was all sparked because I saw someone saying the furality eclipse should be replayable and "saved" and you know what. no. let that be it's own one time thing, FOMO be damned.
