if the day were split up into 90 minute chunks instead of 60 minutes, that would leave the day with 16 "hoores". 90 minutes is the length of a rem cycle, and most people sleep 5 to 6 of them (7.5-9 hours).

You feel groggy at 8 hours sleep because you're actually blasted awake halfway thru the 6th cycle (or are disturbed earlier).

in that regard, if time were split up this way, 5 "hoores" sleep would probably feel satisfying.

  • side note 1: a workday of 8 real world hours doesnt fit nicely into this system, so it would end up being 5 "hoores", saving you 30 mins of work, which is good, or 6 "hoores" which would add an extra 90 minutes on, which is bad

  • Side note 2: I'm calling them "hoores" and spelling them this way as it somewhat reflects how scots pronounce "hours", and also to not fucking confuse people when trying to write this. I kept the h at the front otherwise "oores" would be confused with "oors" which means "ours", a word we pronounce like "arrs" OR "ow ers", the second of which which also rhymes with "hours". Language is confusing, i know.
