But as a kid, I was obsessed with stage magic tricks. I'd scrub dishes for pocket money and save up to by small serialized boxes of magic paraphernalia and rehearse till I was sure I could get it right, then try and show off to my parents with an improt magic show.
I was forever cringing at myself for years after I grew out of it, and even though I did, I always kept watching tricks online and collecting decks of playing cards. I've been thinking of getting a large adult set and rehearsing once again.
Its not just the mechanic aspect of getting the trick right, there comes a great deal of showmanship and personality involved to work with the crowd. In a not too dissimilar way on how bartenders do more than just serve drinks.
One example is the video of the second oldest trick in the history of sleight of hand featuring Chris Hannibal who gets it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XoCvn4fnXw
