I recognize this piece is more hopeful and rosier than maybe it should be, but I needed to convince myself there's still hope to be had. A zero-emissions trip around the preserved Olympic Peninsula with friends who have all made it, and will keep making it. For Motor1. Shot entirely on Kodak Ektar 100 and a Nikon F4.

(You can tell it'll be a softer piece than usual because our commenter base hated it.)

Loved this! It's fatalism that will kill us, not climate change! I mean, that will do some of the work too of course but honestly there is SO MUCH we can do in regulation and collaboration and to think "well I guess we're just sunk" is just dreadfully ignorant.

hol up, did one of the commenters manage to purposefully misgender you, but then correctly gender everyone else in the car?? I dunno why I looked...

Anyway, fantastic article and amazing photos as always. I was up in the Olympics just earlier this year. Found the Sol Duc hot springs to be delightful and trans-friendly, but none of their EV chargers were in working order :)

Refreshing read with a familiar touch- I almost visited Kalaloch with my partner in early 2020, just as the pandemic was setting in. We ended up renting a cottage on Dungeness Bay instead, which was well worth it, but it's wonderful to see your photos from the trip all the same.

Can relate strongly with your story in regards to politically-and-climate-motivated migrations over the past few years. Unfortunately my time living in Seattle area was a temporary situation for work (and all too short). Have made several cross-country moves since then. Glad to be in a safer place now, but the time I invested elsewhere and the people & places left behind definitely weigh on me some days.
