"furry name" and "real name" is such a bizarre way to frame "name my friends call me" and "name the police call me while they're writing a citation".

I think "dead name" used to mean specifically "the name that will be on your tombstone." Any tombstone could be for a trans or queer person but we would never know it, since all that is shown is their dead name.
Which makes it really weird how some people seem to insist on using using one's legal name once they learn what it is.
