you're mad about the wrong thing!
why would we call this bird widely dispersed throughout the western united states the "california gull"...

and call this bird you're most likely to find on the california coast the "western gull"??

it's not a bad state bird, it's the bird's name that's wrong!!
utah has the largest terminal saline lake on the continent (for as long as they can keep it anyway), and you know what california gulls love to eat?? yes! say it with me: brine flies!

the california gull loves utah! utah should love it back
i've got your back! 64% of the 50 states don't have a unique state bird. if your state bird is the Northern Cardinal, Northern Mockingbird, or Western Meadowlark, you're probably sharing your state bird with MOST of your neighbors. and 3 states picked the American Robin.
the American Robin? really? you've decided this bird represents your state?

come on now, be serious.
rhode island and deleware both have domestic chickens as state birds. i guess they're technically birds. fine. it's not what i would pick.
florida and texas especially can do better than the Northern Mockingbird. due to their proximity to the subtropical zone these states have dozens of incredibly unique birds that can't be found anywhere else in the country. here, texas and florida, i'll do yours for free.
Texas: Green Jay

Florida: Purple Gallinule

this was so easy, it took me 5 minutes.
