there's a new lady at work who has every casual conversation in the same tone of voice as an aunt hamming up enthusiasm about her excited grade school aged niece's special interest. she does this no matter who she's speaking to or what the topic is. and i know that sounds like it would be SO grating and infantilizing, but she does it with such sincerity and shamelessness that it just makes you feel very listened to. i've never encountered something like this before.

There’s something about raw sincerity and enthusiasm that just sells you on whatever’s being talked about and the person talking about it, whether you care or understand or not.
Good on her for apparently unlocking the ability to have that about everything!
I've been trying to develop something similar to this ahah. I just legitimately get interested in hearing people ramble about stuff they like, so it comes off as genuine when I listen to people go on about comics or some tv show I have no interest in, but I enjoy hearing people list off everything they like about it.
