what i learned from doing yellowstone yesterday and then an unassuming bird sanctuary today was that i actually don't give a limp handjob about experiencing the world's natural wonder if i don't get any solitude

yeah... The crowds at a place like Yellowstone can absolutely destroy the joy of such a place.
maybe if our greenspaces weren't vanishing people wouldn't feel like they need to travel to see trees and animals
Yeah :(
Yellowstone is strange because it's so many different things. It's a geological wonder you can't see anywhere else; it's huge mountains, it's a beautiful canyon/waterfall, it's wide open fields, it's a habitat for so many animals
And it just means that it attracts so many people for so many different reasons, from the person who wants to sit alone and study the world to the family of 5 travelling to one of Nature's Great Wonders Old Faithful Wow
Yellowstone as a park has lots of extremely empty parts that are worth hiking through. But yeah, Old Faithful is uh...
I hear ya! And even with solitude one still has to hear the airplanes. One trick I use is asking the ranger at the visitor center if there are good dirt roads easy to drive with low clearance 2WD. For some reason the crowds are afraid of dirt roads.
