ngl I was tempted to ask for this (I was going to propose "some comments") bc there's no good way to do it with pure css
this but unironically, with some indicator that there's more comments than last time you saw the post, but who cares how many exactly
I don't think you should do this, but it's also something that wouldn't be bad either. It'd be funny at least, and isn't that what web design is all about?

last year (when we had 100 users) we made the entire site tumblr colors and changed the logo. gonna be hard to beat
Comments counter replaced with a red X if comments are locked, a yellow question mark if there's no comments, a green tick if you've read the comments, and a blue star if there's new comments
If anyone does count them on purpose, Eggbug will show up on their doorstep with a couple of Eggthugs to show them the error of their ways
this is great because cohost is basically just people wandering around chatting and irl there's no signs saying "12 people spoke to me about this"
this is basically how I experience cohost and I can tell you it's good
