the word "rewind" is fascinating to me because it's an example of a semantic change in my lifetime. it used to refer to literally winding a tape back around a cassette reel, but now it just means "go back".
when someone says to "rewind" a youtube video i get to imagine that videos and songs on the internet are wound around a spool. i think that's neat.
My operating systems and data structures professor tried to tell us that netflix had a big storage silo and all the films they stream were on magnetic tape and if you clicked on the play button on Elf starring Will Ferrell there was a mechanical arm that would go find the magnetic tape for Elf starring Will Ferrell and would read it sequentially and send you the bits.
Now, I'm no data center expert but I'm PRETTY sure that's not true and we basically all knew it.
this would be a very funny way to answer the "how would you make netflix" system design interview question though
