fun fact: Pathfinder 1e lets you buy potions as oils, intended to let you use potions on things that can't drink, like your sword. Nothing says you can't grease the barbarian up for buffs though.

It's also a standard action to apply an oil to any nonresisting target, versus a full action to trickle a potion down an unconscious character's throat. So oils are superior to potions by default.
