Eeriita has a pet Awlis that he obtained when he was 15. The Awlis is a sacred animal to the Order despite not being native to the Crystal Desert. All birds are sacred to a degree, but as large deadly predators, the Awlis is said to be particularly favored by the Hidden Moon.
On the Trial of the Awlis: One of the ways that the Order's culture differs from mainline Dousan culture is that their xeric does not require its members to undergo the Trial of the Daeydoim to participate. As the Order has their own home-spring, children are raised there by the approximately 10-12 members who aren't actively out traveling w/ the main xeric. This is a task that all adults rotate through. As their band is small and not being reinforced w/ new members being assigned to the xeric by the Dousan Maudra (more on that later), they can't afford the casualty rate that the Trial of the Daeydoim can cause. Instead, the children undergo the Trial of the Awlis when they come of age.
The child is given supplies for the journey, but must go to the Endless Forest, obtain an Awlis chick, and return with the bird alive. While there is a casualty rate, it's generally less than the Trial of the Daeydoim, as implied here by Eeriita calling the Awlis trial 'not as impressive'. As stubbornness (in reasonable amounts) is a prized quality among the Order, most kids end up coming back with a bird even if they have to go back for another one half-way. Upon returning, the xeric has a celebration for the adulthood of the returnee and the naming of their Awlis.
Not all Awlis stay with their captors upon adulthood, and it's considered a sign of both skill and favor from the moons if yours stay. Those with the patience to bond with their Awlis will find themselves with a ferocious battle companion. The trained Awlis are used to carry missives between the traveling part of the xeric and those at home, and also will also bring meat from their kills back for their owners. Lipi here is exceptionally well-trained due to her tight bond with Eeriita.
