Scugs seem more suited for an arboreal life than an aquatic one (with the exception of Rivulet in canon), so I imagine most of them have a sleek sort of feeling, but there's a lot of variation in them. I think a lot of them probably feel like a slightly longer squirrel fur. A denser softer fur is for those who are adapted more to more flooded regions, probably with mink texture as well as otter. Water Runs Down feels more like an otter since the region they came from* was a more marshy/swampy one. Words and Centipede are from a drier area (relatively speaking), and had a purposed organism ancestor mixing things up, so Words feels rather rabbit-like and Centipede feels like a Golden Retriever.
*The original colony site that Water is from had an Iterator's superstructure collapse nearby, resulting some severe environmental issues that forced the colony to migrate away, thus having Water end up by Words and Centipede.
