I don't usually make personal posts on here, but I'm going to break tradition because I'm feeling a way. For the uninitiated; 900 CHML was an AM radio station in Hamilton, Ontario that had been broadcasting since 1927. In those 96 years, they were a beloved local fixture and institution. Lots of my colleagues in my day job either worked at CHML directly, or with one of the other Corus Hamilton stations they shared a building with at some point in their careers. I say all this in the past tense because three hours ago, at noon today, CHML went off the air for good. We caught wind of it at the office shortly before it happened, and gathered around the radio to hear one of the oldest stations in the country die. It's not necessarily surprising; their parent company, Corus, has been hemorrhaging money for a while now. Still, as someone who both works in the industry and is a history nerd, it's heartbreaking to see this happen.

If you want to read the statement on the closure, you can do so here. I'm not really building to a point or anything here, just kind of processing it. My heart goes out to everyone who just lost their jobs, and I hope they all land on their feet.
