I feel like gold watches are pretty self-explanatory for most of the Ushiromiyas. The Piaget Polo feels pretty on-brand for fashion designer Rosa--hip athletes and actresses wore these in the 1980s, and a very flashy modern sports watch feels more in line with her position in her family compared to Krauss (Rolex for sure) Eva (perhaps an Omega Constellation?) and Rudolf (Rolex as well and maybe not gold--he'd covet James Bond's classic Submariner or something else from a film). They'd go for the classics; Rosa would like to appear a little more forward-thinking, as a designer.

Most of these Polos were quartz--chic at the time, another reason I see Rosa springing for one--and according to a Hodinkee article I read a while back, they were technically worth more melted down for their scrap gold content than as watches. Fitting! While they're incredibly ostentatious, I do like the segmented design of these, especially the way the ridges continue across the face of the watch. The crystals are so clear that in a lot of photos of these it's hard to tell there's anything covering the watch face at all--it's a very cool effect. They land in that cool "ugly-pretty" zone for me, although I'd doubt I'd wear one (and not just because they're a bit much: they retailed starting at 20 grand and while they have lost a lot of value over time they still land firmly in the "holy shit" price tag range used). But I think Rosa might!
