Rereading IDW Sonic, and I'm already reading Knuckles in Dave Mitchell's voice, even though this was years before he started on the role.
Also the very first page on which Tangle the Lemur exists, she crushes and explodes a bunch of Egg Pawns with her tail. ... And then she goes "ow" because she just had a bunch of robots explode in her tail. A couple pages later, of course, she's merely crushing on Blaze the Cat.
In comics like this, it is important, outside of cases where you are specifically trying to subvert the reader's first impressions, to firmly establish a character's most important traits right from the get-go. IDW Sonic goes out of its way to establish that Tangle the Lemur is 1. competent on par with any player character, if fairly reckless and bad at thinking things through, and 2. incredibly gay. Happy Pride!
