rgb would go completely against the spirit. it needs to be something with permanent colour that defines the function of the port!
If we're going that route usb c should absolutely be color coded to show whatever features the manufacturer decided to implement (color code the cables too)
USB-C should just get a mulligan. take some time and come back with a standard that doesn't require me checking five cables every time i want to do something more involved than charging
