there's a not-so robust (yet) attempt at making an open-source and community warioware clone made with Godot Engine

it really didn't get the traction i was hoping for and i haven't had the time to flesh it out myself, but if the idea sounds cool and you want to help i'd love to talk 🙏

in the wake of Unity doing some Dumb Shit, i've been giving Little Warioware some attention and i'd appreciate it if folks could spread the word!

Little Warioware is an open-source take on Nintendo's beloved WarioWare series made in Godot Engine. i've literally wanted to make this for the better part of a decade and decided it was the right time after learning so much from A Little Game Called Mario (maybe you've heard of it?).

unfortunately, it didn't get as much traction as Little Mario and has been languishing a bit since I announced it at GDC earlier this year, but i still believe it could be something wonderful someday!

while the framework is decently functional, we're severely lacking on microgames. if you're interested in learning Godot but find it a bit daunting to start completely from scratch, maybe you'd appreciate the constraints of making an intensely scoped 4-second microgame?

i have a lot of ambitious long-term goals for it as well:

  • an aesthetic theming of an alternate reality computer from the 80s that's powerful enough to run the most cutting edge 2D and 3D gaming experiences...but only for 4 seconds, lest it overheat and break down
  • community features, such as rating microgames and sharing playlists. basically, i want to make the Mario Maker of WarioWare!
  • an emphasis on creator discovery and crediting - what if gamedevs had a "Spotify"-like thing where you could shuffle a playlist and play tiny little samples from a broad spectrum of creators? find a microgame that had amazing art or cool mechanics? trace it back to that creator's portfolio or social media!

sound cool? leave a comment, shoot me an Ask, or join the Discord to learn more! i really can't make this thing happen on my own (as much as i might try), so i welcome anyone who's feeling curious to check it out and contribute in any way you see fit!

and please please please share so we can get some more eyes on the project! thank you!
