This video hit back in my recommendations again, and with my growing interest in van life, caravaning, and camping, I can't help but feel that this luggable would have killed in that demographic over the last five years. Hell, it probably did back when it came out too; my godfather had one of these and he took it with him in his RV.

I really do think one of the consequences of the 2008 financial collapse was that a lot of these companies got rid of their Skunkworks esque R&D divisions and just focused on pleasing the Gods of the Quarterly Return. Like I have only really since seen these kinds of swings only out of niche companies like Teenage Engineering or corporations with more money than what they know to do with/sense like Valve.
Yes, screen sizes are given in inches all over the world, and I, being in a fully metric country, find it pretty annoying. If you give me any screen size greater than 17" I’ll have no idea how big it is.

wrt the laptop inch question from the european side: same deal with TVs, monitors, and oddly pizzas, they're all in inches and you're just kinda supposed to know

I only learned this after the video came out, or slightly before, but apparently Dell made a bag for this thing, and it was literally a piece of roll-on luggage, like it had a pop out handle I think. Absolutely breathtaking

now that it’s been properly demonstrated i understand why it makes sense and why it’s a nuts luxury product
but what really gets me is the realisation that it was made in a time when people still thought a computer was obsolete as soon as you got it out of the box. someone buying this would have had the expectation it turn into a relic in like 3 years
now, it turns out 2006 was when that stopped being true, but imagine buying this as something essentially disposable

Plays television, DVDs, and blurays? Records things like a TiVo? Hooks up to the audio system? Operable by remote from the other side of the house?
This is the most "made for my dad" computer I've ever heard of. If he knew this existed in '06 he might have traded in his van for it.
I saw one of these in a nearby Goodwill Computer Store a few months ago, but I didn't realize they were infamous then. Maybe I should have grabbed it, but I already have so many computers and not enough space.

the guy who listened to nothing but mirwais - disco science and tears for fears - mad world. who got so mad he nearly passed out when the gears of war commercial came out because gary jules ripped off tears for fears (he had absolutely no idea what a cover was and it took half an hour to convey the concept.) and yes, he brought it to classes for taking notes
this was already truly the Most Computer Ever at the time, and it's only more true now
