So I am reading the cornucopia of evil that is my once, current, and future home state of Louisiana(derogatory) new laws that come into effect this year and besides the anti-trans law, the other law that I forgot that was coming to effect is an expansion of our online ID law that means we need to register our ID to go on social media, not just porn sites. This is, of course, wrapped in the perennial "save the children" slogan, but effectively once again chips away at online privacy. What's funny is that aside from the age verification for non-minors, this effectively a copy of COPPA which most social media already comply. While not explicitly saying social media need to connect to our IDs, it is the only effective way to do age verification under the letter of this law. Which by state law definition probably includes cohost. Joy. Luckily, I intend to be out of the state by July 1st when it goes into effect, but yeah, this is not good.

The law is SB162, Creates the Secure Online Child Interaction and Age Limitation Act (Act 456) if you want to look it up. It's not a fun future for us down in the Big Easy, we are once again being the canary in the coal mine for our dystopia. For once it's not the climate apocalypse, but our Cyberpunk dystopia.
