squoosh is my ideal website. it does one thing really well, and it's so good there's absolutely no "this would be better as an app" nonsense. just bookmark the page and come back.
i downscaled a selfie and used 8 color dithering to go for a fun retro look for my avatar.
EDIT you can add this to your phone home screen and it will install like an app :-)
yeahhhhh game boy camera should be only 4 colors i think, but i couldn't resist going for 8
that being said... how many sprites can you put over a background? each sprite would give you an additional 3 colors per... i think it's 8x8 square? hmm
Maximum sprites: 40 total, 10 per line, 4 colors per sprite (one of which being transparent)
hmm ok, with a 160x144 screen resolution you'd need 360 8x8 sprites to cover it. so not very viable. pretend i'm two images flickering back and forth to simulate extra colors lol...
wish something with even 1% of this functionality was in every OS; and really even browsers for when you pick an image file... an option to encode to different resoultion/format/filesize would be so nice...
even with cohost plus the file size limits are so small here. BUT at least cohost doesn't mangle your files. love that i can give them a goofy ass PNG and they just preserve it :D
