Did FF4: Free Enterprise commentary for the first time last night, and it was (mostly) pretty good!
I have a ton of experience with OOT Rando comms, so I kind of knew I'd pick it up smoothly enough, but it's a very different game with a very different community, and in particular one that loves meme repetition, something I have a reputation of hating within the OOTR community. On the other hand, the FF4FE community is known as probably the friendliest, most caring rando community there is, so I knew I'd be kinda carried through effectively enough.

And it was fine! I managed to hold my own on the knowledge front, talking enough about routing and decisions and letting Possumorpheus carry the knowledge on the technical side a little more. The thing I didn't note going in, though, is that I'm bad with the meme side of things, and being pushed to initiate community memes was the one thing that made me hide away a bit - I don't want to be the spotlight on comms ever as it is, even less so when it's for repeated memes! I've always been less an extension of chat and more an enhancement of the gameplay when on commentary, so being pushed into the spotlight (unsuccessfully, I might add) was the one downside to an otherwise good introduction to FE comms. (I also know barely anyone in the community so hid away a little in the interview, and the one question I asked was misunderstood, but that's one of those standard commentator moments of "forget it, move on".)

But hey, overall, pretty good. I'm sure I'll do more, and I'm sure I'll pick up on the parts I'm weaker with at the moment as it is. Can't guarantee I'll ever fully commit to the memes, though. πŸ˜…
