my tokusatsu-inspired oc... her name is Io (she/her) and she takes up the mantle of "Literary Warrior Quill", a superhero system built by her mother that's powered by creative energy stored in "pen drives". each pen represents a literary genre, and up to two can be inserted in the driver to mix 'n match the powers. the catch is that someone (doesn't have to be Io herself) has to use those pens to create "something" that blends those genres together for them to successfully make a combi form.

io herself pretty much comes across as the coolest and most levelheaded person in the room at any given moment. she's very dedicated and determined to help people. she may come across as self-sacrificial, but she's very "i'll do this WITHOUT dying or sacrificing anything about myself!" about the whole thing. she's very confident in her abilities. easy to get along with and is good at making sure quiet people don't feel left out. dense as hell when it comes to topic of love and romance (she's SO ace). she's the type of person you could go to for basically any problem and she'll either take it upon herself to "deal with it" or help you feel better. she's a go-getter and absolutely hates sitting around when she knows something could be done right now.
despite being a book-themed superhero, she actually doesn't like reading very much! she grew up reading a lot, but ever since her father (who was a fiction writer named Mun Rhote) died, she just doesn't have any passion for it anymore. her catchphrases involve puns on the word "iota", such as "I won't forgive you even one iota!".
her default form is fantasy + action. action in particular is special because instead of changing the form visually, it is used to make weapons.
in this world there are riders heroes based on other forms of media too - such as film, music, and video games - but they all use different drivers that can't overlap. so there would be a mid-season upgrade that lets io use their power-ups, sort of in the same vein as kamen rider gaim getting that add-on that lets him use genesis driver lockseeds.
the late-season upgrade would be an electronic bookmark that makes "Saga" forms, essentially doubling the inserted pen drive (which is what makes action + action possible). if this were a show, i think these would act as her "final forms" instead of getting a definitive final form. her real final form is based off of "Fanfiction" which literally lets her rewrite reality, but the equipment for it goes unfinished until "after the show" thanks to... things that happen.
long story short, the pen drives actually suck out people's creative energy when they are used and it turns out io's mom overworked her bestselling author dad (among many others - including one of io's best friends, the latter being how io figures out what's going on) to death with them, so she personally shuts down the production of the Media Warrior Systems and fights her mom.
her mom (her name is Elambda Rhote btw) basically uses an upgraded version of the Literary Warrior system (it uses ultra strong solo pens instead of double pens, and i see it looking similar to Quill but instead of a normal recolour it would maybe be like the differences between kiva and dark kiva? idk it definitely has a cape though) and their fight is so crazy and awesome that it rips open a hole in reality and they both continue their fight in The Void. io defeats her mother and she gets swallowed up by The Void, but then realizes she's unable to go home. she ends up meeting freaks from other weird universes (including a greaser fishguy magical girl, a shapeshifting ninja, a fucking dragon, a mad scientist octopus freak, and many more) and with all their talents combined, they would finish the remaining bits of the Literary Warrior system including the "Fanfiction" ability and rework the whole thing so it doesn't suck out people's lifeforces.
also an aside is that the "Romance" pen would be dysfunctional for the entire show because io's father died mid-way through the romance novel he was writing with it. io's mother tried to get a young io to finish the story but had to come to terms with 1) io is ACE AS HELL and 2) io cannot fucking write a compelling story to save her life, so it just becomes an abandoned powerup. the crew in "The Void" end up finishing it, and it ends up being the most underwhelming power of all time since it's at the same power level as the other default pen drives. all that buildup for nothing!
oh yeah also. i don't know what animal she's supposed to be?? this is basically the human-replacement on io's world and there's nothing biologically different about them outside of how they've evolved to look. my original thought was that i wanted a mouse + duck hybrid but she looks more like a wolf lol... her skull is just shaped "like that" instead of necessarily being ears, though maybe there should be ear holes there. i wanted to invoke that same human <-> bug vibe that kamen rider has so all the heroes in this look like birds while the characters are distinctly mammals. i just really like designing non-human characters.
her legs in the first picture... basically she was injured in the fight with her mother when she ended up in The Void, and The Void is drawn to injuries for some reason. the environment basically rotted her legs and now they are these near-useless crystal-like claws that are a use pain to walk with. she ends up staying half-transformed most of the time as a result.
anyways i came up with this oc before kamen rider saber was announced and let me tell you my excitement -> disappointment when it was so close to what i came up with but the execution in the powers was clunky... it felt sooo set up for touma to get reality rewriting powers too LOL oh well! it just means i get to keep my ideas instead of being compelled to change them for being similar...
