let's talk about this gay frog.
Veronika (he/him) is the biggest celebrity on the world of Zenith - even more famous than the gods themselves. not only is he a genius scientist who has made plenty of inventions that have helped the people's quality of life, but he's also a music idol who sings and dances at basically every major festival. he has his own fashion line, owns a lot of construction and tech companies... it's pretty much impossible to avoid knowing about him. ...for better or for worse.
(ramblings under the cut)
augustus was raised by a deadbeat father who passed away when augustus was around 18. neither he nor his father had a very strong potential for magic (an annoyance at family gatherings, as his mother's side was FULL of freaks who could shoot lightning from their fingertips and even control the weather), so augustus dedicated himself to inventing something that could help magic-less people like himself. over the years he would go on to succeed - he and a team of like-minded people successfully created things such as lunar power, energy reactors, transportation vehicles, and many different disability aids.
however, he was a guy with a lot of interests! he also had a passion for the arts, and started a band with a certain Ozriel Lalazzi. although they would see some success together thanks to augustus' rising fame in the scientific community, they had a lot of creative differences and augustus felt like he was being held back by the band. so he quit the band and took all the new music they were working on together and repurposed it for his solo debut, where he would go on to be known as "Miss Veronika".
for reference, he doesn't exactly HATE his birth name. his family name? oh hell yes, he does NOT want to be associated with his father, thank you very much! there's nothing worthwhile to him on that side of the family tree. he did once try to bury "augustus" to cut as many ties with his old life as possible, but he has an odd sense of appreciation for very specific people who use it. it can be sobering for him when he's wrapped in his dramatics! so while he once hated it, after hitting the peak of celebrity status it's become a sign of "oh i can relax now". a reminder that he's with someone he trusts. he'll NEVER give people that name though or say they can use it - those people just Know. the only notable people who can use it are his manager and Qixros Ohea-Obea, the latter of whom is an ex from his pre-veronika days who he reconnected with later in life (they accidentally saved the world together. these things happen).
thanks to dominating basically every industry with his smarts and charisma, veronika became an international sensation all across Zenith. he is beloved by many and has MANY connections, not only has he met the owner of every major corporation on Zenith but he's even met the Divines (aka the world's gods) themselves. they each have their own opinions on him, but still!
basically the only person of power he hasn't met is the Overseer... and he tries to not let that bug him, because NO ONE other than the Divines has met them! but after a certain Melodiea Opal meets the Overseer and is granted the powers and status of a Divine, veronika hopes the same happens to him one day. maybe he can invent something that lets him enter the realm of the gods to meet them? oooor maybe the Overseer will hear his latest single and think its SO fire that they will come down to the mortal realm for an autograph. veronika thinks about this a lot.
of course it's not all happy: people who have worked with him since he became big have PLENTY of stories about how unreasonable and stubborn he is. as is with any billionaire, he pushes employees too hard and could be paying them so much more. there are lots of horror stories from people who tried to take time off and were quietly fired. bad working conditions, unanswered criticisms, seniority favortism... every mega corp horror story is in there somewhere.
he;s also a tremendous drama queen for better or for worse. some people think its funny. other people think it's so annoying. everything veronika does is dramatic af like he's trying to win an award at the theatre society. he's incapable of being chill or normal in front of people. veryyyyy few people have seen him without any social masks.
the only redeeming quality about working for him is that he actually DOES know what he's talking about and can do the job himself if he has to. he'll rarely demand the completion of impossible tasks - and if he does, he'll roll up his sleeves and personally make sure it gets done with his own hand. as a result, he's SUPER multi-talented. he can sew, he can program, he knows his way around a workbench... his weakest points are that he SUCKS at graphic design and you should be scared of anything he cooks. oh he has a cooking show? yeah don't take those recipes to heart. there's a reason his people forced him to release a "revised" version of his cookbook.
he's also not big on charities or philanthropy... not surprising! but we're all still disappointed by it. as an author's note, i think despite being a functional genius, he WOULD fall into the same pitfalls as our irl dunghole billionaires. yeah, veronika also would have pretended to buy twitter for $44b to divert attention from a lawsuit, but then would actually have to go through with it when the owners try to sue him for backing out. veronika goes "i don't know what to do with all this MONEY!" then looks away when people give him a plan to solve world poverty. he would get really into buying nfts and lose them all, and to make up for the loss he makes his own nfts that are just photos of himself in different outfits and poses. (some of the images are from his old collectible trading card line and he hoped no one would notice.)
he has a manager who he pays to be brutally honest about whether or not something is a good idea. this manager makes BANK even though veronika rarely listens to them. whenever someone questions this manager about if they enjoy this job, they shrug and go "it's a living". (the reason veronika underpays his employees is because he's too busy paying this person the highest salary in the whole world. his manager gets a raise basically every two months for making a powerpoint on "why your new idea sucks ass sir". veronika considers his manager to be the most trustworthy person in the world and also his best friend.)
ever since becoming a pop idol, his science-y stuff has taken a little bit of a backseat (aside from maintaining and improving his current inventions). last thing he was working on was space travel - he succeeded in launching his first car (built himself completely by hand) into space but took a hiatus on that front to reallocate his time and funds for his four hour biographical movie. and he just never went back. oops.
if all that wasn't enough to future-proof his name, he accidentally got roped into saving the world from calamity a couple times and came to be known as one of the six legendary heroes of Zenith. the experience does end up giving him a new perspective on some points of life and he ends up taking a break from the entertainment world to go back to research and development. turns out he's not TOTALLY selfish, but sometimes it's hard to tell...
being unable to figure out space travel ends up being his biggest regret. he never ended up in a serious long-term relationship or had children. some people believe he passed away peacefully from old age, but others think his death was faked and that Miss Veronika is still out there, waiting to make his grand appearance on a stage once more...
