<- Night 1

last time the game couldn't detect all the times i woke up... aaand this time it actually worked! not only is the time it took me to fall asleep pretty accurate (i remember last looking at the clock around 3:30) but every time it's in "dozing" is when i actually woke up. i woke up at 8am and got so excited thinking about what pokemon i could meet that i just laid there trying to do mental math on when i should get up lol

here are some tips for people who are like me and have such a bizarro sleeping situation/habit that the game thinks you're "slumbering" all night when you aren't (and you want to fix that):

  • try taking off your phone case: i have a bulky wallet case so i thought maybe it was getting in the way of the app sensing sleep patterns. this also helps your phone stay cooler. i'm personally a freak who stays as still as a corpse when i'm asleep so it's not a worry for me, but if you move around in your sleep and worry about pushing your phone off your bed, maybe try switching your phone case for a slimmer one or something? bulky phone cases just generally seem like a negative with this game because of the heat.
  • put the phone closer to you: this one seems obvious but on night 1 i put it beside my pillow, which is higher than where i sleep so i dont think it was sensing ANY mattress movement (i have a firm mattress + memory foam) even though i was tossing and turning all night. i basically put it lower beside my body around head/shoulder level, as close as i could without it sliding into me (close enough that at one point i did wake up with it under my arm)
  • readjust your phone whenever you wake up: don't check the game. just reach out and make sure it's still on your bed & in a good spot. i don't know if this really changes anything, but i was like... offended when the game thought i was a heavy sleeper on night 1 lol. so i really wanted to prevent that.
  • take some deep breaths why dontcha: it's just good for you! i don't know what effect this has on the game but it's probably a good one. i did some really big sighs every now and then to inform the game that i was still alive, please don't stop tracking my sleep time.

also for reference the only sounds going were a fan (at max) and an air purifier. my window was also open but i dont think there were any noises through the night. i have no idea if this would effect anything!

i don't know which of these things ACTUALLY helped me get more accurate results (and prevented any periods of time where the game had no idea what was going on) but. maybe these things can help somebody else who is worried that the game won't work properly for them. we're in a phase where there is not a lot of information about the game and not much help in combating inaccurate data so i figured i would share my own experience. maybe this could also help people game the system if you're trying to get a specific sleep style! idk!

i might keep experimenting with where i put my phone and how much i interact with it in the night. i would rather have to not worry about it at all but i am happy to know that night 2 was a bigger success than i thought it was going to be.

anyways my one desire for when i woke up was to see a bug pokemon and i got a caterpie so thats awesome. :) good game
