I find it incredibly funny that Italians would feel threatened by a lab grown meatball. After all, if meatballs are so good, why wouldn't there be a meatball 2?
Imagine if this had gone differently, and Italy decided to do a space race style competition but instead of space it's just perfecting lab grown meat.
Maybe France would get involved too. I could imagine Italy and France in some kind of gourmet food version of the space race.
