I drew my profile pic and banner. The gameplay in the banner is from dragon quest 1 for game boy that I recorded myself.

Does anyone know of a guide on Japanese keyboards, I’ll be using one for class next month and there’s a bunch of functions on it that I’m not entirely sure how to use, I’m used to the romaji input on English keyboards lol

Honestly it's best leaving those extra keys alone because they either switch you into a mode that you don't want (like kana input - some sickos do type like that but still. I've never really tried kana input but I think romaji is easier as I can just rely on my english touch typing) or that don't really work (at least not in the way you think they might work)

Wikipedia seems to have a decent enough description of the extra keys https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_input_keys

Also, if you didn't already know, using the F7-F10 keys after typing but before pressing enter lets you convert into full width/half width romaji, hiragana, or katakana (not in that order) - it's really useful sometimes

I second everything mojilove said but saw this and just SCREAMED because

like kana input - some sickos do type like that but still

I knew this one snobbish guy from Canada who typed like that EXCLUSIVELY and spent all his time proselytizing to the rest of us unwashed gaikokujin that we were doing it wrong 😭 Just a total monster, wtf

Also this keyboard doesn’t have function buttons (Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro) so I’m gonna have to figure out how to change the character widths I’m sure there’s some shortcut for it but for some reasons I can’t find documentation on this keyboard 😭

oh sorry, those function key things are for windows and linux, idk if this will work for ipad as well, but on macOS, you can use Control+J/K/L/; (semicolon key) for hiragana/katakana/full width/half width - it's even more convenient because you don't need to reach up for the function keys: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/japanese-input-method/jpim10263/mac

the かな and 英数 keys switch between JA and EN input - they are also nice because they are much closer to reach than the hankaku/zenkaku key on windows keyboards

kana input is possibly more efficient but i'm not a fan as I just can't be bothered to learn it at all hahaha
