Instant coffee in America (whoah-oh)

When Kim Wilde recorded "Kids in America" none of the band had ever actually been to America. And therefore they did not realise that over here, "instant coffee" is well-known to be instant poison - guaranteed to bring people out in rashes, convulsions, and irrational claims that nice instant coffee cannot possibly exist.

As a Brit, this will not stand - our glorious island is powered by perfectly fine instant coffee. And as a Buffy fan, I will remind you that Anthony Head is also powered by perfectly fine instant coffee. So despite now living on the wrong side of The Pond, I set off to find some!

FWIW, I've found "Medaglia d’Oro Instant Espresso Coffee" to be fairly decent. YMMV.

I appreciate the rundown, but what really intrigued me were those Anthony Head adverts! What’s was the format of that narrative — did each part air, then some time later get replaced with the next segment in the schedule? They seem pretty short and assuming you knew the context. 🤔

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Blend_couple : 12 adverts, each the standard 45 seconds long, over 6 years. So a new "episode" every six months - and that's the way I remember it. Also remember that back then in the UK there were only four TV channels, and only two showed adverts, so a high-rotation advert like this was known and seen by basically everybody. So the "soap opera" effect was very real.
